She co-founded MSK's Brain Tumor Center. This brought specialists together from across MSK so they could most rapidly translate laboratory discoveries to patients. Dr. DeAngelis was instrumental in developing the regimen to treat primary central nervous system lymphoma, and led national clinical trials that examined novel brain tumor therapies.

Dr. DeAngelis has published over 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts and over 130 book chapters, and has either written or co-edited eight books. She has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine.

In 2023, she was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society for Neuro-Oncology. Also in 2023, the SNO created the Excellence in Education Award, Honoring Lisa DeAngelis, MD, to an individual who has contributed to the field of neuro-oncology education.
