As of 2026, Thailand has simplified its entry process, offering a 60-day visa exemption for citizens of over 93 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. A mandatory requirement for all travelers is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), which must be completed online within 72 hours of your arrival to receive a QR code for immigration. While the 60-day stay can often be extended for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office, travelers must possess a passport valid for at least six months and proof of an onward flight. It is also a professional best practice to have proof of sufficient funds (approximately 10,000 THB per person) and travel insurance, as immigration officers may randomly request these documents upon entry.

The official currency is the Thai Baht (THB), and while modern malls and upscale hotels in cities like Bangkok and Phuket accept credit cards, Thailand remains a very cash-heavy society. You will need physical Baht for street food, traditional markets, and small island businesses. Tipping is not a traditional Thai custom and is never mandatory, but it is increasingly appreciated in tourist areas. In restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving a 10% gratuity is a kind gesture if a service charge is not already included. For other services, it is common to tip hotel porters 20–50 Baht per bag and to leave a similar amount for housekeeping, while taxi drivers generally do not expect a tip unless they provide exceptional assistance with your luggage.
