Galilee Medical Center

Galilee Medical Center (GMC), located in Nahariya, Israel, is the largest public (governmental) hospital in Israel's Galilee region and the second largest in Northern Israel (after Rambam Hospital in Haifa). Established in 1947 (though some sources say 1956), it began as a small maternity hospital and has since grown into a comprehensive medical center. It is a vital institution serving a diverse population of approximately 600,000 people, including Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Druze, and is also the main treatment center for the Israel Defense Force's northern command due to its proximity to the Lebanese border. GMC is an academic medical center, affiliated with the Bar Ilan University Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee since 2011. A significant portion of Bar Ilan's medical students receive their clinical training at GMC, and many of its physicians hold senior academic positions. This affiliation fosters a strong environment for clinical and basic research, with a Translational Research Center currently under construction that will be the only in-hospital research institute in northern Israel.
