It was established by Clalit Health Services in 1976, although its original campus opened in the 1940s. Carmel is a vital part of the healthcare infrastructure in Haifa, a diverse city, and is operated by Clalit Health Services, Israel's largest HMO, providing comprehensive care to its members and the general public. Carmel Medical Center is an academic medical center, affiliated with the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. This strong academic connection ensures that Carmel is actively involved in medical education, training numerous residents, and conducting extensive research, with nearly 370 ongoing research projects in 2021.
