Walter Melia

Dr. Walter Melia is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with over two decades of experience in the treatment and management of liver conditions and general gastroenterology issues including inflammatory bowel disease, all types of Hepatitis, and liver disease. He is also an accredited endoscopist providing both therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy. He sees private patients at the BMI Blackheath Hospital and the BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital. Dr. Walter Melia Consultant Gastroenterologist BMI Blackheath Hospital and BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital Dr. Melia earned his primary medical qualification in Ireland and then trained on the Kings College Hospital Liver Unit, under Roger Williams. He also was awarded a specialist fellowship in Hong Kong, during which he gained knowledge and expertise on various tropical diseases. Upon completion of his training, he was appointed Consultant in 1989 in the British Army, working at QEMH Woolwich, until 1997 when he joined the Dartford and Gravesham Trust as Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist. Dr. Melia was the Clinical Director for Adult Medicine at the Dartford and Gravesham Trust between 2000 and 2007. Dr Melia has also been the Trust Cancer Lead & the Trust Upper GI Cancer Clinical Lead and has also been the Kent and Medway Upper GI Cancer TSSG Lead. Dr. Melia is also a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and the European Association for the Study of Liver Disease (EASL).
